I'm only here a couple of weeks, so any advice on locations would be great.

If anyone has a good website to check let me know.

Apparrently Langwarren bush tracks are great. About an hour sth east of Melb. Near Frankston I believe. Just dont leave your vehicle unattended for very long. I have heard that Sydney is a nice place too but I have never been there either.

Have a Prado Td, Tirfor and Cooper Tyres, not sure what that has to do with my question however.

I'm not wanting to do anything where I need recovery, but a resaonable trek to enjoy the Victroian bush.

Some of your locations are a little generalised, do you have any more sepcific locations that may suit my needs?

I live in South Langwarrin. Last weekend a friend popped in that had been doing some riding on his dirt bike and informed us that a lot of tracks around the area have been closed - seems a lot of rain and wind have made them impassable. I wasn't even aware until then that there were tracks - maybe phone the local council to see what they can tell you. However I would recommed going a bit further out to say Toolangi or east gippsland. Far more scenic, more chance of better weather and slightly less dirt bikes (Langy is a bit close to suburbia and so makes for an easy trip for the bikes for an afternoon).

Get yourself some maps of Walhalla area. Some easy work round there. We did Noogie to Woods point to mt skene few weeks ago, that was very easy.. Go in off Ridge road and work ya way across from there.

Swifts creek isnt really close, but there is oodles of novice tracks round there.. You can also do the haunted stream track - 54 water crossings, none more than 1/2 wheel deep (actually only inches deep last time we went)..

Most areas will have novice type tracks.. but mixed in with them will be some serious shiat that you can really get stuffed with.

IMHO, join a club, go with them, find areas you feel comfortable with, you also have the support and knowledge of other members.

Most of Toolangi is slop and some pretty serious stuff considering you dont wanna be recovered.

Wizard1 its simple head out to Daylesford an hour an a bit from Melbourne, go to the visitors centre in town & buy Wombat State Forest 4WD Touring Guide Map 2nd Edition & then drive till your hearts content. South of Daylesford is denser forest areas, north up near Hepburn Springs is more open forest.
The guide is teriffic for the area. It tells you what is of interest in each area, sights to see etc.
The tracks on the map are easy to medium difficulty (as long as you stick to the map tracks, it can get a bit harder if you leave the listed trails).
Just be aware that it can be a bit muddy in some zones if you go off the beaten track.
I was up there last week end with OSWSBO, it was beautiful.
You can camp up there, if not, there's lots of accomadation in Daylesford & Hepburn Springs. Also great coffee cakes food drink in town.
Enjoy!
