05 hilux extra leaf or air bags?

Submitted: Saturday, Sep 03, 2005 at 09:02

time waster

has anyone done either upgrades to the new hilux?
i have changed the front coils to kings as the b/bar,winch,d/batt dropped the front 40mm so now it sits 30mm above standard,we tow a c/t which sags the rear to about 40mm bump stop clearance and now we have sold c/t and ordered a jayco eagle off road which will be heavier so need to lift and beef rear end up now.
can get an extra leaf for about $300 and have heard with the air bags you loose a lot of wheel travel, any comments would be great
thanks

Hi, I have air bags on my 79 series cruiser, they do work well as far as carrying the load and vehicle levelling , but even with only 5psi in them rear wheel travel is definately reduced.

Hi

I havent used these in a towing situation, but I put them on our hilux as a short term fix till I could afford a new set of rear springs.
When I did get a new set of springs it wasnt long before I put these on the new springs because they keep the vehicle nice and stable, as well as being able to adjust the ride hieght to suit the load.

Inatitially our concern was whether they would effect the 4wd performance as we are regularly off the beaten track, but if anything I think it has minimised our chances of having a rollux.

For about $100 its been the best thing we've done

Load Plus

Cheers
