Removing the roofrack on a wet Saturday morning......

Submitted: Saturday, Sep 03, 2005 at 19:13

Willem

Well, it went in to the afternoon as well.

Decided to make a contraption so that I can remove the roofrack and store it against the roof beams of the garage. So with idea in head I went down to the Hardware store, which is open untill 11.30(this is the country...you know). Bought some 5mm cable, cable clamps, small pulley and rope thimbles.

Trouble is that the new roof of my garage is supported by some very old technology. Nevertheless, by using D-shackles, a G clamp and my snatch-block, I worked out a Jig which I could operate from my winch and lifted the roof rack to the heavens. Then I secured the lot with straps. Still, it looked too low, and when bringing the truck in to be parked again found out that I can't open the bonnet high enough to work on the truck. Bugga!!!

Back to the drawing boards. Better still, hopefully the sun will shine tomorrow so that I can go back to painting the house. Messy, true, but less things to go wrong....apart from falling off the scaffolding...lol

Hahahahaha Rosco

Just got back on Friday from a quick trip to the Deep South and heading to the Big Smoke(Melbourne) in two weeks time. Then Xmas in Wollongong. Not heading bush till the last two weeks in May 06. Then we will be gone for 3 months.

Yes, I would rather be out bush but I am also stuck with home duties from time to time.....sigh!

Might put the roof rack back on the truck tomorrow....lol

Hey Grant, where did you catch that yabbie?

Cheers

About 3/4 the way to Nathan River from Borroloola you should see Lorella Springs up a track to the right...
The you should see Rosie Creek right above Lorella...
Then up the top of Rosie Creek you will see a little gulf,,, well in that little gulf about 5kms from the ocean is where we stayed a while and the creek part at the beginning is where the cheripin got caught..
Worth a look when you are up there again.. A few hot springs and really remote fishing to be had....

Some one once asked me how often I used my winch and I told them everytime I go away. You see Willem I use the winch to hoist my rack to the rafters too. I can put it on and take it off by myself in just a few minutes but my shed toof is fairly high and I can still open the bonnet. I am happy to use the winch this way as it is certainly better than having to use it bogged....lol...
