Antifreeze

Hi Folks,
Here's a question for snow experts. We head to Falls Creek soon from central Qld. I keep reading that antifreeze is necessary. I can't find any antifreeze additive up our way and my manual (2003 Patrol 3.0 td) tells me the coolant already has antifreeze in it. Is additive available down south? Should we still be adding something?
Any advice gratefully appreciated.

Regular glycol based coolant (the green or orange) stuff is both antifreeze, anti boil and anti corrosion - you should already have this in your car irrespective where you are and mixed at one third coolant - two thirds distilled water. In extreme cold conditions the mix may be 50:50.

A regular coolant mix will be fine for Falls Creek but if you want to go to the snow you had better make it quick before it melts.

Thanks again.

The important thing Jon will be to top up with Alpine diesel before you get there. I guess at Cooma where I bought some two weeks back, to stop the waxes freezing your fuel. Bit of an embarrassment if you can't get it out of the tank - freezing in the lines.

Thanks John. Have that matter in hand. Travelling down the Newell Hwy to Wodonga and then to Falls. Intend filling up near empty main tank with Alpine diesel in Mt Beauty.
Thanks again,

If I remember correctly there is set amount of the coolant to protect down to a certain temperature.
I just checked ,the one I use lists protection of -37 C at 50% and -18c at 33%.
Most would be around the same I think but it would be a good idea to have a look.
If your coolant is a bit old I would give the cooling system a flush and put new coolant in.
