Hello Peoples, I was Just Wondering if anyone has Been on the Border Track lately in the Big Desert National park? last time we were there about 2 years ago, they were in the process of bulldozing the track and making a new one right beside it, and i must say it was all two wheel drive, with no challenging sand dunes.

Just arrived home from a trip down the Border Track starting at Vic / SA border at Yamba. First section past the Settlement intersection has a new track and is quite flat, however still required 4WD in the Sandy bits. Second section on the south of Bordertown is still the original with some challenging sand driving. We towed our Trak Shak with our GU Patrol TD and had a bit of trouble at the twin dunes just past the "Gums" Campground. First one just got over ok, but he 2nd took 8 attempts. The Bush is stunning at this time of the year and the regrowth since the last bush fire is well advanced. Track is getting quite cut up and Rangers advised will be closed again Nov 1 as the fire season starts.

Hi David,
I have only done the run from Pinnaroo to Bordertown the one way section, you mentioned starting at Yamber and headed south of Bordertown to Where?
Is it as challenging as the one way sections and easy to find these tracks?

cheers

Sorry, my mistake I meant the track south of Pinaroo (to Bordertown) which incorporates the one way section. We started the Track from Yamba, which is on the SA Vic border on the Sturt Hwy, between Mildura and Renmark

Which section of the Border Track are you referring to? There are recent notes on the section from Pinarro to Bordertown listed on this forum and I have photos I can email to you.

Just returned from the area, went in at lake hindmarsh, through Wyperfeld NP up to Pinnaroo - didn't see another car in this section, soft but easy going. From Pinnaroo down to Redbluff was slow going but easy. The Pajero and Prado with us did not even have to go into high locked, still did it easy. Some good dunes, but one of the big ones has a bypass around it so you can't get near it.
