Jackaroo diesel fault

Just a word of warning to owners of the 3.0.litre turbo Isuzu diesel that they can develop a crack in the engine block behind No 4 cylinder that extends through from the cylinder to the coolant gallery. This happened to me while towing a caravan recently and caused coolant to be pushed out of the radiator into the coolant recovery bottle during each day's driving. Luckily the car was still covered by warranty and the engine block was replaced by a new version with thicker walls around the cylinders but potentially could have cost up to $8,000 for parts and labour and the car has only covered 50,000 kms! I believe that Holdens /Isuzu have recognised this problem and it will be interesting to see if older engines that develop the same problem are also covered for this - it is only a problem when placing the engine under high load conditions such as extended towing trips.

It is important that the correct oil be used in the engine, other wise you will have hard starting.

Hi Brad,
A good suggestion and I have just done that, it looks like a very good site. I hope my bit helps as I would have liked to have been told about something like this, there was absolutely no indication that this was going to be a problem, as we have taken our caravan away twice before with no trouble at all, Holden's did not let a lot of info out to me but the techo had seen the same thing in two other engines and knew what he was looking at.
Happy trails!
