There was word a while back that the four cylinder 3.0L Hilux donk won't be the one when they do upgrade. It will be a new V6 and will coincide with the next update on the Prado in 18 months - 2 years time. They'll be in no hurry, the Prado is selling very well as it is. Old mate is a major Tojo dealer and knows nothing of any new motor, but then he claims to be the last to know anyway!

Toyota have had the CRD diesel released overseas for at least four years.

I suspect they have dropped in the HILUX to try and overcome its Perceived poor
fuel economy.

They originally blambed the poor fuel here, but I suspect it is more to do with price.

I believe the reason the Euro spec engine was not supplied here was due to high sulphur levels in our diesel. From 2006 Oz will allign with a new "Euro 4" fuel standard, in which diesel must have an ultra low sulphur level of about 50ppm I believe.

An inlaw/outlaw (depends who you talk to) manages a certain Rural Qld Toyota dealership and would only say that the new diesel Prado will be here in 2006. No exact dates, but hinted it would likely be in the 1st half of the year, like most new Toyotas seem to be.

I think those who work in the dealerships that know are under the pump to keep a lid on it for as long as possible, but I've heard the same news from others so I'm holding on till next year before I do anything. I'm fairly certain Toyota would be upgrading the power/torque on the new Prado motor in comparison to the Hilux. 122kw 410nm sounds to be on the money.

When I bought my Hilux I was told the current model Hilux would get the updated motor end of this year/early next

I have just finished selling at TOYOTA, after 6 years, there was no info on the new engine before I left, I don't believe we will see it in the near future because in Hilux trim it wouldnt be much gain (except economy), it has the same torque already and 24 kw more, and in diesel a kw change is not a big deal. I thik they will hold out to launch a series II with a bigger engine probably late 06, early 07.
