Nissan 3.00 TD Computer Issues

Submitted: Tuesday, Oct 04, 2005 at 16:27

Notso

Just thought this was worth putting up.

I have had the computer replaced three times in the Nissan 3.00 TDI. Engine management system light comes on and diags say ECM Problem replace if it happens again.

Anyhow it had been happening regularly and I ended up at Forbes Nissan and spoke to the Service Manager who referred it to the workshop. Same problem ECM! The foreman reckoned it wasn't a computer problem and he set the apprentice to cleaning all of the Earth connections, including one on the left hand side of the tappet cover which is listed as the earth connection for the ECM. Anyhow after about 2 1/2 hours he gave it back to me and said give it a go. Since then no further engine management lights and truck is running sweeter than I can ever remember it. It has been over a month now so this may be of interest to others who have had ongoing issues.

Thanks Notso.

What were your symptoms?

My EMS light flickers on and off while travelling on bumpy surfaces. I had it tested and there were no error codes. I also had the fuel filter replaced, with no difference. Its a bit hard to test as most workshops don't have ready access to a bumpy roads!

Had much the same symptoms a couple of months ago.
Engine light would come on when starting up.
City Nissan in Melbourne must have seen it a few times - it was the first thing they tried (cleaning the earths).

Cheers,
Sav.
