You could try Fingal
Its just South of the
Gold Coast Busy Area, but right on the beach and plenty of
camping. This gives you an easy access up to the
Gold Coast area and also the Byron Bay area South plus if you are interested in a beautiful drive take the road inland from Murwullimbah up through the Border Ranges National Park around the loop behind Mt Warning onto Symmes Raod and then the Lions Mountain Road to
Rathdowney onto
Beaudesert to Cannungra ,back over the Range into the
Gold Coast and back to Fingal-Big Day but well worth it. Also you can then check out the Rain
Forrest Camp Ground up in the Border Ranges. Fingal is along the Tweed River at the Mouth and has a nice beach area generally hidden from the Crowds

Doubt whether the kids would want to come all that way to the "Gold Coast" and be so far away from the action. Fingal is about 50 km (45-50 mins on a good run) fron Surfers.
Brisbane central is only 45 mins on a good run.
If I was going to recommend anywhere, it would be the north part of the GC for easy access to theme parks "The" beach, and to the Sunshine Coast (2hrs) for Underwater World. Glasshouse mountains out the back of Sunshine Coast is worth a look too.
This would accomodate kids from 5-15 yrs old, and stop them from being bored.

I live at Beenleigh
There isnt many
good camp grounds that suit a Camper Trailer type situation between
Brisbane and
Gold Coast
We go to Fingal because it is suited to Tents and Trailers rather than the Caravan type
places with all the Permanent Vans in them. I can simply hook up the Camper and be at Fingal in an hour or so going through Nerang. I wouldnt stay at the Caravan Parks because of the crowds
