Thinking of going up to the Dog's Grave, via Dargo to Omeo in the next few weeks. Doesn't anyone know if the road is in reasonable condition and whether or not the track can be transversed in 2WD.?
Thanks for any responce.
Stan

G'day Stan ,
I have done this route many times but never in a 'two wheel drive' .
It's not difficult at all - but in a two wheel drive you may struggle a little if you are contemplating taking the family Commodore up into this area .
If it's the 'Company Car' - then it will get you there - no doubt ! ( he! he! he! ) .
Company cars seem to go a lot further in two wheel drive for some reason ??
If it's a Hilux yute with 'high ground clearance' or something similar - then you should be ok ! - In dry weather . ( Not in wet weather )
Hope this helps ,
All the best ,

You will be able to travel that way in 2wd. There is a steep climb out of the Upper Dargo valley but it is all gravel road. The only caution would be if there has been heavy rain in which case the road might become slippery.

We have just come back from an interesting couple of days in the High Country. Travelled from Dargo to Omeo via Birregun Track past the Dog's Grave. We spent the night in Omeo and then came down through Cassilis and turned approx 5 kms from Swifts Creek onto the Brookville Road..went up past Brookville and across the Baldhead Road, then onto Jones Road and back to Dargo. Excellent trip. Stayed in 2Wd all the way but there were a couple of spots back along Jones Road that would be 4WD if it was wet. Well worth the trip. There has been alot of storm damage in the trees and quite a few branches on the side of Jones Road, although we didn't have to stop for any.
Stanm if you are interested the distances were:
14 kms Dargo to Madigans Bridge (Dargo River)
7 kms further along Jones Road to junction of Birregun Road.
25 kms along Birregun Road to Dog's Grave.
34 kms from Dog's Grave to Omeo.
On the way home 18.6 kms from Seldom Seen hut to junction of Jones Road and Birregun Road.
Hope this may be of some help.
Regards.
Bill
