The Starting point of this track Is North east of Kalgoorlie along the Coolgardie north Road about 25k past Rowles Lagoon. The track heads off to the West and meanders in A South Westerly Direction. Much of the country is Unburnt with immpressive stands of salmon Gums Gimlets and Grifths gumms with a few blackbutts as well. As it heads down it passes Granite outcrops such as Coonmine rock, Turtadine rock Pilaming rock as wellas turnoffs to other rocks with there associated historic wells and Gnamma holes. Alot of the Bushes were flowering with hakeas, Myrtels and Kunzeas adding some colour. The track then passes into yellow sandplains which for some reason are nearly allways burnt out - this is no exception. After crossing the haul road to the Mt Walton radioactive waste dump it passes back into typical Goldfields Woodland . Here I took a few detours checking out the Watt Hills with there rocky rutted Iron peaks before taking an Ultra Scratchy track to Ive rock and Wallengine soak (If only I could have found the easy way) before passing through Jaurdi Station with its brilliant woodlands and breakaway areas and came out on the Goldfields highway about 100k East of Southern cross - Good way to spend some of My week off

Sounds most interesting. With all the little trips you are doing you will be able to put together some good track notes for your interstate visitors.

Hi Davoe, looks like an interesting trek. One question. Did you take the track out from Ive Rock that meets the highway at Boorabin or was it further east? I'm going to be in that area in a couple of weeks & may detour on my way back from Kalgoorlie to Perth and possibly look at coming out at Yellowdine.

I visited Ive Rock which is where Wallangie soak is. However With all the tracks in the area i didnt actually find the easy way in or out. I took a track south from Mt Finnerty past the breakaway mine to Jhonnies dam where it took a turn to the West and stopped at Yankie doodle dam. Further exploration found a long disused track following a fencline to Ive rock. On the way back I found the track south from Johnnies dam that after going down a few wrong turns (drillers gridlines) led to jaurdi station. From there i met up with the railway and took the Mt walton health road to the highway. To answer your question You can take the track from boorabin to ive rock and follow the same track i did. another option is to take the yowie rocks track which goes from riverena to Koolynobbing via Bungalbin Hill

"yellow sandplains which for some reason are nearly allways burnt out" and "radioactive waste dump" Hmmmm. You sure the truckies are'nt dumping short and then investigating the contents of their fridges to make up the shortfall in transit time :)))))))

Seriously though, good work Davoe. Always interested in these 'unknown/lost' tracks you manage to find. Keep it up, I'm sure everyone on the site appreciates your input.

This brings back a few memories Davoe. I used to work in an exploration camp out the back of the Jaurdi Hills way back in 1971. It was Real bush country then as there were not all those bloody survey lines and crap to confuse the area.Used to nip down to Coolgardie some days after work to the Denver City for a few coldies.Took a bit longer to get back to camp in the dark some nights.

Hi Davoe
I have been gone from Kal a long time but I thought Rowles was Nor west of Kal
more to the north of Coolgardie?
I only have an old gregories map that doesnt show much of the detail of the
area but many moons back I travelled a lot of the bush (mostly south- south east of Boulder) round Kal and was trying to picture where you started.
Good country all of it.

G'day Dave, yes I was wondering to myself has he got all these directions correct. Ya should just say ya go here, then turn there, go up this way. Then ya cant get it wrong.

Did you continue on the fence line track heading west-south-west past Ive Rock about 200 metres over the northsouth track to where there is a grave site of an early traveller who died of thirst in a dry small creek bed. To find him sposedly sparked one of the largest searches in WA.

See ya

Rod

No from Ive rock I got a bit geographically displaced with all the tracks some looked better used than others which sometimes means only that they had been used recently for drilling. I ended up (by trial and error ) working my way s/e of Ive rock to Jaurdi homestead perhaps i need a decent trip leader again??
