kidman way good drive. Don't waste any time in Bourke though. Not a "nice" place at all.

There is a caravan park just a few kms north of Bourke on the east side of the highway....can't remember the name. It's well out of the town so away from town problems. Bourke is an interesting place and we spent a couple of days there. Took a ride on a paddle boat down the Darling etc. Just don't leave your vehicle parked in town unattended. And as Goodsy said, the Kidman is a good drive and in my opinion better than the Newell.

Cobar is alright (I work there!), will take 4 hours from Griffith on Kidman way. There is a lot of mining stuff to look at there, plus a caravan / camping ground. Better option than Bourke.

Yes, that's the one. (see my follow up above) It's 8 km north of Bourke on the Kidman Way. The local tourist office has a mini bus afternoon tour which is excellent. If the tour is booked out, you can tagalong in your vehicle.
