Camp fire tales

This is a personel project related to 4 wheel drive trips and if you would like to contribute please email me jomar@jc.com.au.....please read on......

Over a number of years I have heard many wonderful camp fire tales, but struggle to now remember them all and the details.
I have an extensive collection of professional landscape images taken on 4 wheel drive trips. These are enlarged images in bound albums, image size 10”x15”.

I would like to gather as many of these campfire tales as possible and so preserve them for the future.

They will be catalogued along with the Victorian landscape images I hold, with the name of the person who provided the tale added.

The tale will simply tie in loosely to area/region the landscape image was taken in.



So my request is please send me an email with your camp fire tale, if I do not have a photo on that region I will be motivated to go out and get one, so as to tie in with your particular story.



The possibility of publishing a coffee table book of my photographs of Victoria has always been a long term plan.

I like the idea of being able to gather and preserve in print, the camp fire tales we enjoy on our 4 wheel drive trips along with the photographs of Victoria.

I have mentioned this idea to a publisher with whom I have done some work and I asked what his thoughts were on this idea as a book. He advised he would be interested, but doubted if we could find enough good tales.



I would love to get your campfire tales and include them in my photo albums, but in addition, if enough tales are around, then the possibility of them being published also may arise.



The following tale is just a short one I heard last year…



We were camped at Dawson City, Haunted Stream, Victorian High Country.

It seems Ballarat Harry and his mate had some serious business disagreements , which resulted in Harrys grisly murder and his body parts being floated down the river. Harry’s ghost was seen regularly by the river, which become known as the Haunted Stream.

According to Steve who I met on that trip, that is how Haunted Stream got it's name.
I just wish I could remember more of the details of that tale. I think I can track him down through a friend.
Anyway next time you hear a good tale let me know...it would be nice to share the spoils, but this sort of project generally works out as a labour of love.

Good idea, but I would consider going the electronic way. I am not saying that hard copy publishing is dead, but the internet is now such a vast place that your stories can be saved in perpetuity and you may reach more readers

1.Establish a website with a domain name
2. Scan your photos and save them to your computer and when you have matched up a tale with the pics, then publish it on your website.
3. Always remember to give credit to the person who has related the tale to you.

Have a look at my website below. Click on 4x4 and go from there. My stories are factual but there are a couple of 'invented' tales.

Had good look at your site, and enjoyed my time there reading of your adventures.
I have put it in my favorites for future ref.
I already have photo site where I sell pictues, so it would be easy to go the next step electronocally, but the book idea still apeals,if I can get enough funny or thrilling tales.

Not many people before you would have travelled south from Jervios to QAA I would think.

Joe, can't email you at the moment having problems. Here's one though that you can cut and paste.

A guy and a girl break down in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night. Then the're some reason he has to leave and says don't get out of the car for anything. He goes off, she hears a thud thud thud, she gets out the car and her boyfriend's head is off its body and being hit on the roof of the car by a homicidal axe weilding maniac. Can't remember if the chick dies or not.

The end.

p.s. can't remember where it occurred but I've got a good picture of Golden Grove in SA if it can be adapted to the story.
