Cleaning aluminium bullbars

Submitted: Thursday, Dec 01, 2005 at 14:22

A post a little while ago asked about cleaning aluminium bullbars.

Recoomended by a few people is urine.

So, organise a few mates and a couple of cartons and have a bullbar cleaning session!

Tell the wife you have to do it. It is the best way.

If you want a chrome like finish to the bar, use CRC and a fine scourer. On completion give it a light polish with long life car polish.

If you look at my rig pic you will see an alloy bar. If you read my rig description you will see it says ARB bar (new pic coming).

I cleaned my alloy bar on a Rav 4, Ouch!!! Now it is ARB black, the mud and the bugs just wash off.

Hi Oldplodder,
One method I know about is the old steelo soap impregnated, depending on how dirty it is..to how hard you have to work!..This will give a clean presentable finnish. If you are looking for a chrome like finnish you will need a cotton type wheel on your 4 " grinder and buffing/cutting soap you can buy this from good tool shops they will advise you on what colour to buy as the corseness gos by colour, cant remember the name...maybee jewels rouge...but you need to wear a respirator cause you will be black and slimy by the time you finnish...maybee a wash down afterwards of urine will help???god knows...I mean the roobar, not you.
Hope this helps.

My next door neighbour is wondering why one side of his bullbar is cleaner than the other. If he ever caught me I don't think he would see the funny side of it.

Hello aluminium bar polishers,

I have polished many aluminium castings on car and bike engines and bullbars, the best product I have found is Solvol Autosol. It is a white paste and comes in a Black and Gold tin or tube from all auto parts sellers, like Super Cheap. Add a little elbow grease and your ally will shine like new!
