Ideas for Places to Xmas Camping

Submitted: Thursday, Dec 01, 2005 at 17:31

Alan S (WA)

Nothing like leaving it to the last minute to organise a few days away between Xmas and New Year.

Does any one have any suggestions South of Perth near water. 2-3 Hours driving time would be good as i am 1 hour north of Perth to start off with.

Tried Loque Brook Dam last year but i have since sold my ski boat so i dont hitnk i could handle the jealousy. The C/vans part in MAndurah are booked. Preston BEach is booked. Myalup is to cramped.

Any other ideas.

You could try Lake Navarino down at Waroona. Got a pretty big camping area. Enquiries through CALM at Dwellingup on 95381078 or at the Lake resort on
97 33300. Cheers.

Alan,

What about Lake Navarino at Waroona - you might still get jealous if you camp on the lake, but if you want to get away from the sound of those thumping V8's dragging happy peoples along, spray in their face, not a care in the world..... oooops
then stay at the caravan park just up the hill. http://www.navarino.com.au/ Stayed in the unpowered section a couple of times and you can travel to Preston Beach in 30 mins for a drive along the sand, or head to Bunbury/Collie, or just sit and contemplate under the trees. Use it as a base especially if the sound of deleriously happy people with lovely ski boats really gets to you :-)
One of the "4wd day treks around Perth" runs close to the area and that's not a bad drive.

Or Lake Indoon to the north of Perth. Never been there, probably more a spring and autumn place really.

Been thinking of something similar myself, but swimming lessons will get in the way....

Tim

Oh what memories, used to be able to do 80kmh on water before i rebuilt the motor. Never tried it for speed after that, but used to get up on the plane in about 1 sec. When i tried that the first time nearly lost a kid out of the back seat from the acceleration.

The rumble through the hills from the unsilenced V8's love it.

went there a few years ago before they emptied it to repair the wall. Last time i looked into it the water level was still pretty low. I might investigate further.

Lake Indoon @ Xmas,-- forget it as a campsite. can be very hot but is ok for a day trip if you still have the skiboat.
Try Sandy Cape about 10k north of Jurien

Allan,
Try the Pepermint Grove Caravan Park at Capel. Lots of tracks around to investigate and good beach etc nearby
