Load Levellers

What types of load levellers are there that would suit a 150kg towball weight? Does it matter if you get an Reese 750lb one when 550lb would be more than adequate?

cheers Rob

You'll find that most cars towball max is 250kg, which makes there max towing capicity 2500kg, now unless you have a cruiser, Series II Disco, or F series Ford, then i would say that 550lb will be OK.

Polyairs will do the same thing no matter how much you have on the back.

Polyairs are a completely different issue to a weight distribution system. I know everyone's got varying opinions and they're free to express them, but......what you have said is 100% wrong (in my opinion!) The polyairs are only designed to supplement the rear springs carrying extra load placed in the vehicle. WDH re-distributes weight back onto the front wheels, which is taken off when a load is placed well behind rear axle ie-ball load.

Don't believe me? Ask polyair. When trying to decide betweeen airbag man and polyair, this made my decision for me. Air bag man tryed to tell me that once I had the airbags I would now longer need the WDH! Total bs and I'd comfortably say bordering on negligent for some one to try and sell on this theory. People have no trouble coming up with excuses for being to tight to pay for a WDH, they don't need the Airbag Mans help.

Nothing personal Baz, I've been meaning to make a specific post re this issue but to lazy, forgetfull etc. Your post just reminded me!

Spot on.

The biggest problem is convincing people that a WDH actually transfers the weight. Hence the name

I run both, polyairs and WDH for their own specific purpose.

The problem stems from the whole industry in part. I have had van dealers tell me that "that van is so well balanced you don't need any weight distribution hitch, it'll just follow you all day."

As there is no legal requirement to use WDH there is numerous angles on it coming from the industry depending on which slant suits them best.

Cheers

Thanks guys I obviously raised a little bit of passion there. I'm confident that I don't need airbags or poly air and I'm only towing a max of 1500kg. I've noticed a few 2nd hand 750lb Reese hitchs avail but none of the lower rated ones so I was really looking at can I adjust the 750lb one down to my towball weight ie 150kgs? I'd go into a towing shop and askabout it but I feel guilty about using their knowledge and not buying their product!

Hi Rob

Never, ever feel guilty about going to the specific store to learn about products you are interested in even if you don't buy from them. Also never assume that the salesperson to whom you speak is a full bottle on what they are selling either.

G'day Rob

Just one consideration. The 750lb Hayman Reese is about $30 dearer that the 550lb. If you grow to towing heavier ball weights in the future 750's will grow with you where 550's might not.
It's not usual to sell your weight distribution with your van etc but take them to the next whatever.
Just a thought.

Thanks Wal,

Thats exactly what I wanted to know. I can pick up a 750lb one secondhand for about half price and it will be good for anything I might tow now or in the future.

Rob, not sure where you are, however I have a 550lb wdh if you want to buy it. I hope its not against the rules to mention it in here when I haven't put it in the for sale section. I haven't advertised it anywhere else either.

Tony, I'm in Perth, I'm going to look at a couple of 750lb ones today. If you can get back to me with a price and you are nearby I'd be interested. Try robgiles62@hotmail.com if we are breaking the rules.
