Truckster

How do you find out where the GOOD ol' genuine country fairs are on ??

Things like arena events, and Wood Chopping and things... Like the Easter Show of the 70's..

Any URL's handy?

yea thanks Axel...

The Sydney Easter Show is a farce now, Show bags are full of garbage, and the whole thing is just a money making affair..

Ive only been to one at Homobush, and the Wood Chop arena was full with around 1-300 people in it.... Crappy To say the least.

More room for people selling plastic garbage that has nothing to do with the bush...

Havent been to the Melbourne one yet, so will give it the benefit of the doubt and try it once.

I like and respect the people of the bush, and would rather have a look and buy things from them that big business....

Truckster, try the office of your State Minister for local government as the country shires have to apply for permits to run them in their districts.

Truckster,

try your states 'Royal Show' or Easter Show website, as most of the country shows have to be affilliated with them, at least they do here in the West. They should have dates for them.

Perths Royal Show gets few country people these days. It's more of a trade fair.

Skippyking.

The Sydney one too is a Trade Fair, and excuse to make millions on useless crap in Show Bags that were originally designed for free samples.

I hate the way the planet is today.
Thanks for the idea.

Truckster, that has always been the complaint of old folks - you are simply yearning for the way the world was when you were young! Everything changes and the old generation rarely approves of the changes - that's simply a fact of getting old - resistance to change.

You can find all of the traditional show features at the Melbourne show. Arena events, grand parade, agricultural exhibits etc. Remember, the shows always had other exhibits because it was a chance for farmers in remote areas to catch up with everything new - you used to always see "the latest" at the show. Be selective about it though - you don't have to buy the junk - you can have a great day at the arena, animal pavilions etc. And smile when you go too!!

Truckster,

Have a look at some of the regional tourism websites. They usually have a calendar of events. First go to the main state tourism site then look for links to the regionals. I don't know where you are, but a couple of examples are www.echucamoama.com and www.thelimestonecoast.com.

In SA we have an Almanac put out by one of our TV weather presenters, Keith Martyn, that lists all the country shows in SA. There may be something similar in other states.

Yes, I doubt if they are sold outside SA. You could try contacting Channel 9 or The Advertiser in Adelaide. Price is about $6.95.
