I had a similar thing happen to my original Magellan Map 330. The whole system froze.

I sent the unit back to Magellan and they were at a loss to explain why it happened. They sent me a new one and it has been going for 3 years now.

If you are able tyo reload the software it may be an idea. Other than that I would ring Magellan and ask them up front. They may be nice and suggest what you should do to remedy the situation or they may say bring it in which no doubt will cost you a packet.

Hi Motherhen,
I have a Magellan Meridian Gold handheld GPS, when you turn it on it needs to locate at least 3 satelites before it can pinpoint your position...while it is searching for the satelites the egg timer icon will appear.
For best results you will need to be outside with an unobstructed view of the sky when you turn the GPS on. Once it has located the satelites it's operation should return to normal and the screen will show your current position.

Have the same unit and when we were turning it on and off everyday when we travelled in WA no problems. At home it hasnt been used much and found it did the same thing as you describe. Once it found all the satelites it works ok but it seemed to take a very long time to locate them. Must get into the habit of putting it on more often.

We had the same problem with an almost new unit. Took it back to the dealer and he gave us a new one, so I suggest you do the same.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback and ideas. I just took the errant unit for a drive to see if the movement would help, while i flicked thorugh the various screens, rather than watch where i was trying to drive, and after a few minutes, it suddenly decided to come back to Bridgetown. Phew! I am still not entirely confident that it is all well though, as it took several tries before it would turn off - did that to me yesterday too.

It was purchased 2nd hand early this year, and although it only gets very occasional usage, it has been fine up to now.
