Hi Formites MC and HNN and all that,
Can someone offer any help with regards to my head lights?
The Problem I have is that for the first couple of months of owning the Paj I had the Headlight Protectors on her and subsequently when they got dirt, dust or crap behind them they started to scratch the Plastic Headlight Cover. I was wondering if I could use anything to polish/Buff them up to get rid of the fogginess on them as I presume it’s impairing the headlight beam. I’m game to try anything before I have to get a couple of new headlight covers from The Dealer as I suspect they’ll be Oh my God Expensive!!

Cheers in Advance

Can't offer much help on polishing the existing covers, being polycarbonate (or similar) they are pretty hard. you could ask Lightforce as they use similar stuff for their driving lights.
when you have got new covers or the old ones are back up to scratch ;-)) fit some Lite Skinz (Aunger?) it is sold at car accessory places and sometimes Kmart, it is a clear plastic sheet made by 3M which sticks like the proverbial and doesn't yellow with age. I've had it on H4 Hella inserts for over ten years now with no probs, stops the rocks busting headlights and will also conduct the heat away.

There maybe better otions (brasso sounds good) but just for the record books toothpaste if good for betting rid of scratches in plastic - eg GPS screens. Takes a bit of rubbing to get the big ones out but it does work.

Right on Greg, I have used it on mobile phone faces before and it works on all sorts of model plastic and glass as a light polishing agent. Just a bit on the finger........

There is a Wreaker or panel beater around Perth who handles this sort of thing. He imports a plastic polish from the U.S and it brig’s the headlights up like new. He charges about $180 to fix them, not sure if he would sell you a tube but I can find out where they are if you like.

G'day Matt,
"Mothers" (the mob that do a range of "car care products") have a plastic polish specifically intended for headlight covers etc.... I've used it to disguise some serious scratches on my weathershields.. did a pretty good job...
Should be available at any half-decent auto accessory place.....

There is a product called "Plexus" (aerosol) which does a magnificent job of cleaning & polishing plexiglass, perspex, etc., & it will also hide minor scratches, & it is claimed to be anti-static (repels dust).... You may have to go to a boating place to get this one.....
Good Luck...

Oh My Left Bollock!
Just tried the Toothpaste Trick that The Explorer Suggested!
And it has gotten rid of 90% of the Haziness with the First Attempt.

So it makes you wonder what’s in the toothpaste we use twice a day on our Teeth!
I guess I’ll be keeping a tube of toothpaste right next to the Autosol I use on my Chrome.
Cheers Greg.

Amazed

Goto a bike shop ask for Plexus. Used it to clear scratches out of bike screens when Iw as detailing

And I always use headlight protectors. Just remove them when you wash the car, and clean behind them.

same as for scratched cd's...just the buffing wheel (cloth) on the end of your bench grinder

one could add some buffing compound...but generally not needed

If they got that scratched after only 2000klms, then they must be the wrong covers, or werent clean to start with

My Pajero NP Headlight protectors had little plastic pads on them so that there was a gap between Cover and Headlight to prevent rubbing.

I am a glider pilot. Glider canopies are made from perspex, and need to be optically very clean and clear. When we get a scratch in them, if light, we polish with fibreglass boat polish (brasso also works) and then use Plexus (spray on stuff) to get the final clean and polish. Plexus is available from Bunnings. For very bad scratches, first sand with the finest wet and dry you can get (4000 grit or something)- you will be horrified at the result, but it will polish out with fibreglass polish and plexus, and look as good as new.

Cheers

Thanks Dave/Frank,
I thought of Using Wet and Dry for a couple of bigger scratches on the Lights. I'll see howlong the first fix lasts.

Matt,
Metal polish called Autosol, available from any auto place is good but now the same company has a plastic polish as well and i should imagine it would be better again.. They actually have 3 different polishes now , i think the third is for glass. Michael

G’day Noah’s Dad,

My Paj has had everything done to it By ARB Ozzy Park here in W.A.
the Suspension Is the OME Kit which I Paid $ 1450.00 and the Tires I got From Richards Tyre Power for $285.00 a piece there 255-85-R16's Their outside Diameter (844mm) is bigger than a 285-75-R16 (833mm) I also had to replace the Spare Rim as that was only a 6 inch rim. I also removed the Plastic Mud Guards Front and back so they didn’t get ripped off by Sand/Rocks and stuff. Also replacing the Front Bumper for the Sahara Winch compatible Bullbar makes the Approach angle a lot lot better.
If there is anything else I can help you with let me know.

Matt
