New Year's Greetings

Submitted: Sunday, Jan 01, 2006 at 10:14

Ruth from Birdsville Caravan Park

Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year for 2006. I wonder if others found 2005 as challenging as I did - but I'm nothing if not optimistic and always look forward to trying to do better each year. Trust the Lear Jet landed on someone's runway to present them with the $32M from Lotto last night - if not, we still live in the greatest, safest, most beautiful country in the world - and on this Forum, we all have each other. How lucky are we?
Weather today - hot, blowing northerly/norwesterly - dry as - temp around 42 at 10:30. Cold prawns for lunch today and cold champagne - with those few people left in town. How good is that?
Very best wishes to everyone. Ruth and Ian.

G'day Ruth,

Maybeit's just me but I have just not seen you here for a while.

Sounds like Birdsville is a bit like the Hill at this time of year. Most people have left or are leaving. I head for north coast NSW tomorrow, very early, too early, gee it's a long way to the coast.

We had 41 at 10.30, haven't decided on lunch yet but I am at work so no champers for me.

All the best to you guys too.

I hope 2006 is a great year for you. 2005 was a big one for us. I told the ADF where to go finally, as they kept stuffing me around. 4 years of their BS was enough for me so no helicopter jockey job for me. However our new business ventures are occupying much of our time. We should get to see you more often now. Enjoy the prawns and chamapgne.

Hi Ruth
And all the best to you and yours as well.
We enjoyed catching up during the year (Sept) and spending a few days in Birdsville.
You at least would know what 42 feels like, just spare a thought for wet and cold Melbourne-- we had 42.9 top at home yesterday and we are not used to that I can assure you. Got down to a "cold" 31 at 4.00 am this morning.

G'day Ruth,

Happy New Year to you and everyone else on EO.

A mild 39 here, at 12.20pm, but have the furnace winds blowing. Pleased we are able to share the 40+ degree weather with our southern friends. Should be more of it!

2005 was a good year for us, Ruth, but busy as!!! Handled over 42,000 head of cattle, about 2.5 times more than a "normal" year. Must have been that June rain, eh. Optimism, we had it by the bucketful this year, not bad for a born pessimist!

Looks like toasted sangers, and a cold beer here.

Thanks for your wishes, see you sometime in '06.

Kind Regards,
Bob

Mark & Nikki - hello. I did reply to your Post but then the computer ate everything (as they do). Just wanted to tell you that we had been talking about you a few days before and wondering how you were getting on - hoping you'd had a bit of rain. Just this weekend we've had about 5 inches at the SEQ place - so hopefully you might have got some also. Although my caretaker tells me it was wild storms - 28,000 lightning strikes on the Friday one. We were also talking about fencing. Hopefully, the house will get built there this year. Yahoo - finally. Keep well and tallk to you through the year. Ruth and Ian.

G'day Ruth and Ian, hope you can enjoy the year in Birdsville but take the occasional trips out to see people. We have been there twice to visit now and hope you folks can travel south a little while.

We were actually going to Port Fairy on Sunday to be at the cannon firing but it was put off because of threatening rain. We went for afternoon tea (beers) and then dinner. Sorry I didn't see this yesterday.
