Cooper Tyre Lugs

WheelTravel

Hi All...

I have 5 cooper St's and 1 Yokohama super digger for my Troopy. When I bought the car, I replaced the almost worn yokos for Coopers and kept the spare as a 2nd.

45000k's around oz and it was time to swap em round... they had been rotated, but the yoko hadn't has any use as it's tread is slightly less deep than the Cooper...

So on the back right is the yoko and coopers the rest... A few days ago, I did some scrabbly sharp stuff. No punctures which is good, but my Coopers look like somebody took to em with a chainsaw...(one of em was quite new, now missing a about 5 lugs) The yoko faired up fine, cpl of slices, but the coopers had entire lugs ripped completely off, Needless to say I won't be buying them again...

I have heard Good Year is "Good" but wear quick... $hit, they can't wear quicker than a 300metre hill climb!!!

Anybody else experience this... I'm sure they have, and if they haven't, I'm going to Coopers for a whinge...

Happy New Year guys....bottoms up!!!

Cheers

From my experience Coopers provide good aftersales service. I had a set of ST's replaced under warranty a few years ago, due to unusual wear.
I'd buy Coopers again. Definitely worth a phone call. Good luck.

I've had this debate with many friends of mine as i run 33in cooper st's and they run bridgestone desert duellers after all our trips out my coopers always look worse for wear than there cheapo desert duellers the only thing i can suggest is that tyres that have a outer lug all aligned with each other ie none sticking out more than another like a cooper that has a large outer lugs every second lug doesnt bite as hard into the terrain therfore less likely to tear it off .Which only goes to show in poss 85% of all situations do we really need big chunky tyres as my friends state .We have travelled many tracks from mud to rocks inc grimme and butchers country for eg which at the time were pretty tough and we have all got through ...

Even if Coopers have excellent after-sales service, isn't it a bit beside the point? For all their marketing and price you would expect a tyre that you don't need to take back.

Agree with that. Should'nt need to take them back if they're up to the task they're recommended for. Or is it just a quality control problem?

Yeah, maybe quality control. Still, every time this brand comes up it seems to be a 50/50 happy/unhappy customers. .Sounds like a very expensive lucky dip!
