Hand Held UHF Advice

Hey guys!

Bit of help needed.

Want a hand held UHF top mount in car. I know the GME 5w has a car kit, but am only looking at a 2w UHF. Can the tx630 (GME) be used in the vehicle with an external antenna? If not, anyone got advice on a good hand held (not $400 as the 5w) that can be used in a car kit?

Thanks!

Nick

Original Banjo (SA) replied:

Anything under 5W is probably best left handheld - routing 2W through more passive wires and connections is asking a lot re performance it seems - from advice I've seen here before, I think 5W handhelds with in car kits are not going to perform like built in 5W units - 2W with in car kits would probably be very short range only. Awaiting the other responses...............

Guys, I expect to install a fixed antenna and route cables through to the hand held unit for in car use.

Anyone got a good hand held solution?

Thanks

NJC,

If the uhf you decide on has a TNC aerial connection, you can do as you wish, with adaptors available from suppliers.

These 2watt sets do perform reasonably well, but if you ever have an emergency, you will wish you'd bought a 5w set!!!

Hooroo...
