Fitting new aerial to 80 series

Hi everyone,

just looking for a little insite I bought a replacement aerial for my "97 80 series
and it looks like I have to take the whole guard off to access it.

Is this true or has anyone got any experience with doing this.

Probably easier to take the lot off than grow a 6th finger to get in and undo the bolts to get it out....if u have an electric, the mast is replaceable.

I ended up ripping mine out and luckily the replacement ones from supercrap cover the mess you leave behind. You will also need to rethread the ariel wiring from your new ariel to the radio as the factory wiring is not long enough to pull through and atach to your new ariel

Is it an electric aerial? Are you replacing the whole thing or just the mast (with the long piece of plastic track hanging out of it).

I had to fit a new mast (into the existing electric motor) after an encounter with one of those ridiculously low shopping centre roofs, and did so with very little difficulty. In fact the hardest part of the job was parting with almost $90 for the part to Toyota.

I fitted an electric one to our 4by and although I did it 5 years ago I don't think I took the guard off. Take heart, the is a way.

Hi Snowy,
Snap..........I've got the exact same problem. Driving through the bush, tree leans down and grabs the aerial. Broke right at the base.
I hope there is a simpler solution than taking the guard off!

Now all l can here is the diff whining away, cos l cant turn the radio up!
