Recovery points

Hi all,
another quick question. Recovery points at the front of my 100 series, will the two factory fitted points (the welded on coiled steel loop) suffice for recovery or do they need to be replaced with hooks.????
By the way the model is a live axle,

Unless I'm mistaken those points you mentioned are TIE DOWN points only, they may be OK for towing on bitumen but will fail under recovery conditions

DO NOT use them ! Fit after-market hooks. And when you fit them you will need spreaders inside the box section to stop the bolts pulling the side walls in.

RATED HOOKS .
If you cannot fit rated hooks then fit a self recovery point . Its called a winch .

Get yourself some rated recovery points as the standard ones are only for towing NOT snatching. THey are relatively inexpensive. The problem with the 100 series is the hole spacings are different to what is available off the shelf. You need a set of recovery points made by OUTBACK IDEAS. These are available in selected 4wd shops or can be ordered direct from them on 0402267571. I have them on the 802 series and they work a dream.

You should be OK in a 100 series it wont get far enough offroad to need recovering! :)

Go get some rated hooks fitted and get two on the chassis so you can use an equaliser and halve the recovery load, cause if perchance, you do get towed offroad by a Nissan, it'll be easier on the vehicle to be towed back to the bitumen.

Only some of the above is good advice.

I have used them quite a few times and if they wernt up to it there would be quite a few tojos left out in the bush. A Mag supposedlt had them tested and they were good for 8 Tonnes and by the look of the way they failed i think they only had them bolted by One bolt

Hi Ozzt ,

I have a 100 TD and I just purchased two rated "Outback Ideas " recovery eyes " from Mannell Motors in northern Sydney . I think they would be strong enough to tear my car apart .I know they are strong cos there're painted red .

I can bridle the car with them or just use one for a quick snatch .

Originally , I had a very weak looking hook on one side which looked like it was cast iron . Then I got a stronger cast iron one and then I replaced that , with the eyes on each side . The last hook was used a couple of times , but I always expected the worst with it , whereas I have total confidence in the Outback Ideas eyes .
