What do you call your beloved truck and why?

Thought this would make for some interesting tales....

Old man had a 45 called BEAR.... slow in winter & loved trees.

In a family where our vehicles usually get names, the Landcruiser Ute is King Billy (i don't recall why - King Billy was a character in a film called Smiley that was around when i was a toddler). The Cruiser is white so it might not be related. Previous Cruiser was called White, one before that Big Red, before that the FJ40 was Toby.

Our Nissan Patrol is usually called Nissan, but it's real name is Gogo. When we bought it, we went to Perth to look at a Winnebago 4wd. It did not suit us. Our Hilux loving son had just changed his striped and bought a Patrol (unseen) from the Readers Mart which we had picked up for him as he is at Wickham. We drove it up to Perth that day and it was so comfortable. Just down the road from the motor home place, was a Nissan dealer so we called in. They had a just traded ex Govt Patrol and somehow we arranged to buy it (had to wait for finance approval during the next week before we could pick it up as it was Saturday). My husband told the children we had bought a Gogomobile - and one daughter was heard to ask someone "What's a Gogomobile - Mum and Dad just bought one" - so Gogo was what the Patrol got called.

What a great thread to read!!!! I have been in hysterics reading all this....

In our club there's a "Rosie", a "Narelle", a "Dez", to name a few.... we originally called our GQ "Black Dust" or "Dusty" for short 'cos it used to belch black smoke from the tail pipe...... various servicing jobs have almost totally eliminated this now so it doesn't happen as much..( A local take-away shop owner offended me a couple of years ago to the point where every time I drove through the carpark past his shop; the road sorta bends there so the rear of my truck was in line with his door; I would give the engine a big rev and "Black Dust" would belch forth and usually straight through the doorway into his shop...... I know, I know I shouldn't be so childish but it was hilarious at the time and then he fitted a set of those plasticky curtains to the doorway......)

My dear old Grandfather had a succession of FE Holdens all named "Betsy", my wife and restored a VW beetle once and called it "Nikki" in honour of the amount of body filler we put into it.... my Mitsubishi work van is known as the "Misty Express"...

some of our previous cars had names...

Our old 4 speed yellow XD was named Pig.
the blue EL ford we had before we bought the Pajero was affectionally known as the blue car and our red panel van (work horse) is known as the red car.
Having bought a Pajero I have named her 'Jero' and it suits her. then when we are driving and we see another Pajero or Mark does something in her that you wouldn't necessarily do in a normal car he has come up with this stupid hand movement thing and finishes it off with 'Yep... Pajero countryyyyy'

When we got the jackaroo new, a mate who had a well used troopy, called it a Jillaroo 'cause it was too poofy and shiny. Said it would be 'Jilly' till we got some decent scratches. Well it's well and truly got the scratches, but also kept the name. Jilly it will always be.

Happy trails, Mike.

Bilbo replied:

Me old Ford Maverick ute was known as "The Golden Thunderbird" - 'cos i found a lot of gold when using it in the bush and, when I was ready to come home after weeks and months in the bush, I used to fill up both fuel tanks and not stop until I got back to Perth. It was 110 kmh plus all the way home - sometimes 1400 kms non-stop. Hence when I got out at the other end, I couldn't hear a bloody thing because of the "thunder" of flat out driving!

The latest vehicle, 100 series turbo diesel Cruiser is kown as "Thomas The Tank Engine" 'cos it pulls like a train!. It even has a small model of "Thomas The Tank Engine" stuck to the bullbar!

Sad memo - the Maverick is to be sold today. A memorial service will be held next Saturday, (Bilbo sheds a tear).

I reckon "Anna" gets the prize. he, hee!

The 80 series was called The Old Natural because of the non turbo diesel engine.
The MK Patrol shorty was called BMX because it used to do great jumps over dirt mounds.

Oz Rover replied:

Our '77 Series III ex-Army Land Rover 109, with Holden 202 conversion, was christened "Leo, the Lion-hearted Land Rover" upon purchase, in memory of my late uncle Leo, a Series III 88 owner for several decades. When the '97 Discovery 300Tdi followed a few years later, a name needed to be found. We settled on "Daphne" as a suitable name for a refined and elegant English Lady (pronounced "Daf-nay", of course).

Before that a '92 Toyota Cressida Grande was known as "Gundy" because the salesman keep mis-pronouncing "Grande". Nissan NX-R was "Nexie", an '82 280ZX and an '88 300ZX Turbo were "Silver Bullet" and "Red Bullet" respectively. A rather sad medium-blue XB sedan was "The Blue Flame" and a very beat-up XA ute was "Millenium Falcon" (ref. Starwars, the original).

Quite often when trying to make it through where others have, you can hear a chant of I can make it, I can make it from inside the cabin, :-),

and just like the little red engine in the story it struggles most times.

Very thrilling here. The Green Car.

Thats its name, but what it is is the "toughest car at kindergarten". I managed to escape personal harm after I last gave it a big scratch by selling that line to the missus. She likes it. It is the family mover day to day. The crumpled sidestep, dust and scratches, sitting next to some la dee la gay thing out front. The other kinder parents apparently know what I drive it, cause I make a point of parking two wheels up on the curb.
