80/100 series storage shelf.

Hi all,
I have added a rear seat area double decker storage shelf to our 80 series. It bolts to the seat bolt holes in the floor with a couple of sloid hooks under the seat lockdown bars. It can be removed intact and the rear seat fitted again. I put a storage bin between the seats behind the consol for stuff you need while travelling. Maps, camera, trail mix etc. The same idea would fit other 4wds with a bit of careful planning. Base is 18mm form ply as is the centre divider and box. The rest is 12mm ply and all covered in marine carpet from Whitworths ship chandlers. Weighs about 20kgs. Underneath we will put things that we never need, like tool box (it is a toyota) and spare food. The recovery bags go under the base where the rear passenger feet would have been. Plenty of room on top for clothes bags etc. It is a bit hard to get better pics at such close range.

Nice work. I am thinking about doing something similar. I would be interested to know (or see) the hooks you refer to.

Thanks

The hooks were made from an angle bracket. They are about 100mm long and 20 or 25 wide and 3 thick with 90 deg bends. Imagine the metal strip lying flat on the bench with a 90 deg bend upwards then another 90 deg bend about 25mm along ending up parallel to the bench for only 25mm. The metal hook is then turned over and bolted to the bottom of the shelf base. I would send a pic but it is bolted in the car. I hope this explanation is clear. I could send you better pics if you wish. It cost about $150 to build.
