I have a 2002 3.4 V6 Hilux.
I run the 31x10.5x15
tyres too. It does sap the power a bit. Mine is an SR5, so it can standard with 255/70R15
tyres. The equlivent size is basically a 30x9.5x15. This will give you a slightly wider tyre than the standard cheese cutters, but the diameter is the same. Being smaller than the 31" tyre, will give you some more power, but be about 4-5km slower on the highway when the speedo is reading 100kmh.
Also, pressures are important for sand. I ran 20psi on Fraser, and that was fine, and about the same across the Simpson. In both cases, the sand was very firm, as it had been raining recently. I actually went down to 12psi on
Big Red, to get over the hard track.

Thanks for that,
mine is a standard dual cab.
FYI - I checked the speed on mine with a
GPS and with the 31
tyres the speedo is bang on - ie 100Km = 100km. Im thinking I might try 30 * 9.5 next to lower the gearing a bit,
The 31s dont scrub but when I turn tight there is some clunking in the front end - Ive had a mechanic look at it all and Ive checked it out myself cant work out what it is - hoping smaller
tyres might sort it out too.
Cheers,
B
