Waeco Warranty

Submitted: Thursday, Feb 02, 2006 at 16:40

When I bought my CF50 Waeco as a special with Travel Bag and AC adaptor in Nov 2004 all their advertising stated 5year warranty on compressor and 3 year warranty on everything else. Well the Ac Adapter packed it in after 14 months but apparently it's only covered by a 12 month warranty. I asked them if I can use a nothing brand AC adaptor without voiding my warranty, as buying a new adapter every 14 months makes a Waeco an expensive purchase. Their reply was yes I can use another brand as long as it doesn't have a output of more than 13.8 volts and is rated to 75 watts. So after my bitch does anyone know of a good alternative AC adapter

Vivid Adventures replied:

do you have the original material in writing ... if the first you heard of the 1 year warranty on the AC adaptor is when it broke down, they have a trade practices problem (not you).

It would be misleading and deceptive conduct not to have that limitation in the same size print and in the same area of their marketing material as the 5 year/3 year warranty info.

Ciao for now

No I haven't got the original advertisement, but I can't find the 1 yr warranty for adapters on their website either.
It just bleep s me when these companies go on about how good their products are but when something fails there is always a wayout for them and the customer wears the costs. Why give a 5yr warranty on a fridge if you can't warrant the adapter needed to run the fridge for that long.
I have a feeling the adapters are dodgy third party supplied items and thats why they have gone to inbuilt units now.

Muppo,
I too purchased my CF80 as a complete package...BUT the store saleman made sure I understoon the power adapter came with 12 months warranty only. I was happy with that so i started haggling the price down and walked out very happy with what i payed. My point here is this, if you purchased it from a store that sells waeco products, its something you should take up with them. If they sold it to you on false pretences, then go for it, insist on a replacement and when push come to shove, stand out the front with a plackard stating what happened. It will come to the point where they will give you one to remove ur bad publicity.

I too bought my 80 litre in a package deal, also in my case the place where I bought it highlighted the warranty on each item.

Subsequently I had my power pack fail after around 14 months. I went back and explained to the owner the failure and was ready to buy another, however he insisted I bring back the failed unit and he replaced it under warranty.

Excellent service and I am sure he has made up for the inconvenience he went through by the return custom he has since received from me and those I recomend him to.

Just my 2c worth.

Cheers

Was your original contact with Waeco or distributor of theirs ?

Think as good will they (Waeco) could do something for you, if not thats very poor.

I work for a German based company selling premium electrical products, if this complaint was about our products I would certainly help you out, depending on circumstances either repair, fully replace or replace at a heavily reduced rate

Get back on to Waeco and try again, climb the ladder, ask if they have an official complaints policy, use it if they do - be nice as I'm sure you will :-)

Hi,

On very good authority I was recommended to change to a Primus 522001 Power adaptor $68.95 at most camping goods stores which stock Primus equipment. Waeco unit costs $98. BIL had the same breakdown and has made the change with every success.

muppo,
it is interesting that the adapter should only have 13.8V when the original equipment Waeco unit puts out 24V I have stuck a multimeter on mine and that is what I get. The CF50 is also able to run on 12 to 24V supply. I will have a look at the spec sheet and post if this is not correct.

Hi,

Either a 12V (nominal) or 24V power adaptor can be used. The only problem being if the 12V adaptor is not well regulated and puts out say 16 or more under no load. As the fridge can operate on either 12 or 24, the 16-18V area is where the electronics in the fridge can not reliably determine whether it is connected to a 12 or 24V system, and the fridge will not run at all.

It sounds like your issue is with the store that sold you the gear in the first place. From my experience, Waeco will bend over backwards to help you with one their products.

If you havn't already spoken with their customer service team, give them a call and explain the situation you are in. Tell them who you bought it from and explain the circumstances involved. Above all, be pleasant but firm and they should be able to offer you something, even if it is a discounted replacement.

I had a cooling failure in my CF50 which I have had over 5 years now and out of warrenty at the time of the problem. Weaco covered the costs of all the parts and I fixed up the labour charges. They did not have to do that but they did and I appreciated the service.

Good luck....
