Hi ,the guy and his family were camping up near Byron Bay,from what I can gather and had just bought a new 3 way fridge.they had the fridge for a while,but hadn't used it on gas,hubby has hooked it up to give it a whirl,and wifey is over doing the laundry duties,kids are playing near annex where the fridge has been set up by dad.
Anyway dad smells a gas leak and just as he's running to turn it off at the bottle.....Boom, there is some photos showing how the camper trailer and annex have been nicely char grilled.Luckily the kids and everyone else is ok.Dad copped some nice burns to his legs but recovered ok.6 to 7 grands worth of metal detectors plus accessories also got grilled and the whole point was,is that they wer'nt insured.

There were some photos in 4x4 mag a couple of years back that showed what happened when petrol fumes from a jerry reached the gas fridge in the back of the ute - very nasty result.

always check gas connections with some soapy water. if it bubbles it leaking , fix it .lp gas is heavier than air and wont blow away very very dangerous dags

here,here it is good practice to test the lines (compreession joints) with soapy water,i find a 375 ml empty bottle of soft drink container with 2 separate lid(1x with 1/8 drill hole,1x without) is ideal...fill with 6/8 water and 2/8 dishwashing liquid,every time u pull up to camp turn bottles on(dont light anything yet). quickly run around and check joints(shake bottle first..thats the soapy bottle not the lpg)even after this let it settle,crack a beer after a couple of sips have a sniff around bottle (lpg)...fridge etc the nose is a good indicator..they put the smell into the gas so you'll pick it up,many a plumber has has gone to heaven because they have rushed this. regards brom (THE PLUMBER)

After reading the article again...Im not sure what the problem was caused by,but it may have been human error by not checking the lines for leaks /tightness.Im tending to lean towards human error as nothing was directed to the fridge itself as being a faulty one.
