Pro Locker diff locks

Submitted: Saturday, Feb 04, 2006 at 07:13

Chugga

I've read the archive about TJM's Pro Locker and was wondering if there is now any more recent info available as to their availability and durability. Yeah I know ARB have been doing it longer but I have also met a lot of ARB air locker owners who have diff oil oozing out of their compressors or diff breathers.

Chugga,

The 4wd shows will be starting soon at that will be your best time to see the diff lock in action.
I saw it for the first time at the Melbourne show and I think from an engineering point of view it is a better design.
ARB have had the diff lock for a long time and have stuck to the same design, TJM have looked at this, improved the way it works, IMO, but they both do the same job, just in a different way.

Durability can be answered by the Landrover guys who have been using MacNamara diffs for years as that is what TJM now have the rights to manufacture for a wider range of vehicles.

OK this is totally unconfirmed folks(and is not meant in any way as a troll):

I've heard that the Pro Locker design is something that ARB dismissed (thru test) as being less robust than what they (ARB) came out with. Apocryphal I know, but nevertheless, I would wait a little while before investing in ProLocker. Much like any other new thing that comes on the market, if you think about it?

Thats a good one!
The prolockers been around for years TJM bought the rights and now make it themselfs.
TJM parent company CMI own several machining and casting plants so this is where they are made.
It will take a few years to catch on like all products.

Redback, you say that the ProLocker is a JMAC "made" for TJM.
ACDC, you say TJM bought the rights and "make it themselves."
So which is correct?

Look, I don't really care one way or the other - I don't have ARB lockers in my vehicle, neither do I have TJM's offering.

Read my earlier post _ I'm not gonna repeat it.

Why not call TJM and ask them when they will be available?

Give it more time, chugga. Just like the "new" wave of Tru-Trac LSD's and Gleason diffs, they had all sorts of initial bugs in the early stages. And so did ARB, when they first "borrowed" their design from Roberts.Let some other poor clown have the problems, then swoop in when you're ready. I'd wait another 12 to 24 months before committing. Or, for a lousey $499, you could have a go at a Lokka auto and try it and then change over if you still decide you have to have a Pro.
