a friend just returned from NT and said that tour mob ( something Wilderness) went across a causeway with 7 backpackers while water was 1500mm high and lost it...in a croc infested river?
all are okay, but apparently his first reply was.."it was only 500mm two days ago"

Makes you wonder what he's doing driving a tour when he can't tell a 1.0m difference visually in a crossing he see's as though it seems, every couple of days, wonder if he's pee'd in a plastic jar for his employer lately

hmmmm. Wilderness 4WD Adventures I guess.

They drive troopies, but in the wet season they run very few tours, and probably have trouble finding good guides.

I saw them in Kakadu NP with Troopies recently - driver did have good local knowledge, but I got worried when he asked to "borrow" a bandaid (inadequate as that was) from my first aid kit for a client of his who had almost ripped his toe off on some catch point on the vehicle when he was getting out, and was in a pretty bad way.

The poor tour group had got holed up at Cooinda for a day with a vehicle failure - probably hard to avoid entirely though.

I'll have to ask around.
Ciao for now
Andrew.

About 10 years ago during as flash flood near Hermannsburg, NT two OKA's got washed downstream off a causeway. The first driver thought that the water was fordable and downstream they went. The next driver from the same tour company who was a way behind the first vehicle came along and thought Ah!..the other one went through, and she plowed the vehicle into the swollen river as well. And it too went downstream. 15 passengers and two drivers nearly lost their lives as they were swept from the vehicles into the raging waters. Complacency..................

Could be true, in light of the problems with hiring and keeping quality staff in outback areas.
