You would think that I would know this answer being a local and all but can anyone tell me if the camping on Wombat Flat is free??Would ring Rangers but cant be trusted IMHO!!!!

There are 3 different cleared camping areas on the track and are wanting to take the girls and hubby out for a dirty weekend in the bush with the bikes!!.....get ya mind out of the gutter...my 2 daughters...2 1/2 and 7mths!!

Wombat Flat is off Deans Gap Rd....heading out to Yalwal..nsw

Laura - yes, the climb out of Wombat Flat camping area (keeping on going) is probably unpassable these days. I did my clutch on it years ago - so it was a doozy even back then.

Just watch out if there's any wind down there when you go. The trees that you camp under at Wombat Flat are that really brittle type of eucalypt. We narrowly missed being crushed one time by a falling branch that was as thick as a person's body.

Other than that - enjoy!

Brian what is the track like, we are planning to go there for easter longweekend and i am having alsorts of troubles trying to find out which tracks are open and which are closed. From what you say it is now all open again but is it still worthwhile 4wdriving up the yarramunmun trail?

Jas if your going to Yalwal at easter, take some earmuffs and a big stick to fight off the 3000 motorbikes and music playing yobbos that will be there, i for one will never camp there again.

As for Yarramunmun it's open from Yalwal again up to Braidwood Rd, from Yalwal to Mint bush to Tarramunmun creek is still closed but you can come from Deans Gap rd down Mint bush to Yarramunmun creek and then up Monkey gum back to Deans gap rd or go across the creek and up to Rollover/widowmaker hill and up to Yarramunmun track (thats assuming you can get up) then wherever from there, powerline track 12 mile and so on.
