seat covers over leather seats

Submitted: Saturday, Feb 01, 2003 at 12:53

Lyds

Any recommendations for seat covers to go on leather seats (pajero Exceed)?

I mainly need them for protection from soil and kids during trips, but don't want to adversely affect the leather.

I am in Sydney.

cheers,

Stuart

Lyds,
make sure they are fabric lined on the inside, the actual sheep skin will damage the surface of the leather,it is quite abrasive.

Sheepskin seat covers tend to "rub" on your leather, the way to overcome this is to fit the plastic seat protectors (as used by most service centres) under the sheepskin seat covers. I had this on my car for 5 years without a problem.

Velour, fabric, acrylic seat covers are no problems on leather.

Thanks.

For offroad (ie dusty) travelling is sheepskin the best option?

Any recommended suppliers in Sydney?

Sheepskin breathes better (cooler in Summer, warmer in winter). Not sure of suppliers in Sydney. The markets are usually the best buy.

There are a couple of types

Type 1 - Sheepskin front - acrylic rear
How they make them cheaper is that they are sheepskin on the front (the part you sit on) and the back is a matching color acrylic fabric. The supplier usually only needs to carry a few sizes that suits lots of cars.

Type 2 - Full Sheepskin
Total seat cover is sheepskin, usually a seperate piece for the headrest. Will need to be made to suit your vehicle. There is little "stretch" in full sheepskin hence the reason to be specifically made for your car.

If $$ are important - Type 1 - Sheepskin front - acrylic rear are the best value.

A product from the Black Duck canvas Co is great and they are custom made to your vehicle seat. I have them, and have seen other with them and they do a fine job of protecting the seat fabric without rubbing and wear under neath. They are held on by velcro, easy to put on and fit like a glove.

Only problem mat be cost, while each seat cover is made individually, mine (75 series with one aerotech seat) were $280 for the pair.

Order over the internet, great customer response from them and good product.

Thanks Tim,

Having the beige leather scuffed up from my last trip made me a bit nervous about just leaving the leather.

As I have had it treated recently; I'll keep an eye on it.
