Hi Tania, The course i did i can recommend as we covered all aspects of 4wd situations in the morning and put it into practice in the afternoon. It was all done in a friendly environment at the international harvester training complex at Angelsea. It is an easy and fun day trip which outlines theory and practice followed by correct recovery procedure.Creek crossings, ascents, descents correct gear usage stall stop techniques and tyre pressures etc.are all covered. You can have more than one person in the car as it is relatively informal with enough time for each person to learn the tasks for the same cost.Kids in the back was ok too.Bookings are through 4wd off road driver training.Phone is 95621001 or0428312579 E-mail is fourwhdr@alphalink.com.au contact person is Adrian du Jardin.

The other option is to join a 4WD club. Many offer free training as a prerequisite to doing club trips. The only cost being the joining fee, which is usually less than cost of paid lessons.

I did both, and while I found the paid lessons to be more professional, I had no complaints about the club training.

cheers,

Stuart

Hi Stuart

We thought about joining a club, but with so many to choose from didn't know which one to choose.

Also heard that most clubs are a bit "clicky" - that it was better to know someone that was in the club already, so that it was easier to get "included". What does everyone think????

Tania,

I know what you mean by clicky, but I think it is a matter of familiarity. I found that doing a couple of club trips opens things up.

A lot of people just join clubs for the training and thats it.

not sure about courses in vic but ,just atip on choosing a course.always ask the person that is instructing if they are teaching to the national standards for 4wd training & what their qualifications & 4wd experance are, as there are lots of people training who may not have the experance to be doing so
