Ausguard Cargo Barriers

Submitted: Saturday, Feb 01, 2003 at 16:11

Spanner

Hi all,

Does anyone have good or bad thoughts on these cargo barriers compared to Milfords? Does anyone have one in a Prado? They use a cable for securing compared to the metal staps the Milford uses. Cost seems to be $60 to $80 cheaper.

Cheers,

Spanner

Spanner, I have an ausguard fitted to the jackaroo. It seems to do everything it was designed for, complies with Australian standards and was $150.00 cheaper than the Milford. The rating for mine is 60kg about as much as a full fridge if it were to slam into it.

Full Fridge - 110kms/hr - accident - 60kgs impact on barrier????? don't think so.

But anyway, Milford are regarded as THE standard for cargo barriers - stick you family in front of one and you know you have done all you can do to prevent cargo ingress in an accident. IMO choice should be simple.

Terry,

Where did you get the Ausguard for the Jackaroo. I am in the market for one before I head off on a trip in April. Have only found Milford barriers around Sydney.

We have an Ausguard barrier in our Patrol, looked at all of the other ones and compared the prices and still decided that the Ausguard was the way to go. They are tested to Australian standards even though there are some on the market that i would not use as the fittings that they use are not the best quality and they tend to rattle when off road, dont know about you but rattles drive me nuts. As for the cable instead of the strap, it is high tensile stainless cable and would take a lot of strain to break so i would say buy it you wont regret it. Just my opinion.

Moggs, I am sure like all clever 4wd campers that your fridge is securely tied or strapped down so it will not be doing 110kph if you stop suddenly.

Yeah, tied down securely, just actually wondering what the actual impact speed would be if it wasn't, and whether a cargo barrier would hold it.

Colin, bought my cargo barrier from off road equipment in Myaree in W.A. In the east I believe their ph.# is (02) 96723455 G.U.S Holdings trading as AUSGUARD.
