Has anyone fitted a second battery in the engine compartment of 2001 Hilux 3.0l Turbo Diesel? If so, could I please get details where it is located, what had to be moved etc..

Thanks,
Mal T.

Mal,
The aux is located on the passenger side adjacent the radiator.
the overflow bottle is refitted at a 90 degree angle to the grill using a bracket. the battery is then squeezed in between the air filter and the radiator. The battery is only small though (225mm long) I am looking at fitting a larger battery in the rear canopy to enable more stanby power.

Mal, I wrestled with this issue and probably contemplated too much but in the end I made up a stainless steel frame and bolted it to the floor of the tray. (3.0td Lux) Battery box drops in and so does a large deep cycle battery. ARB solenoid, 25amp circuit breaker and medium double insulated wiring to battery is enough to keep things charged but not sufficient for starting. My choice of mounting location was based upon the relatively weak mounting points for an under bonnet setup and not wanting to fix it out on a trip. Hope this helps.

Thanks Leighh. That seems to be the only place to mount a large battery.
