I assume that you are going after big fish with light tackle ? I couldn't hack pulling the line in time and time again with nothing on the end..no trace, hook or sinker. I've yet to enjoy catching a really big fish....I try and stay away from things that are big enough to retaliate :)))
Been to that area quite a few times (not
fishing) and never failed to enjoy it.

We don't want to go after marlin , sailfish , sharks - just want to catch mackerel , queanfish , trevally etc on 10kg .
How big is a " really big fish " ?
Airlie beach has changed a lot since I was last there - then , we used to call it Airlie Mud Flats .
