Has anybody noticed that in the Nissan new car lots that there is no new Patrols on the lot', i was travelling around Sydney last week and did not see one new one on a lot, being possibly in the market before the end of january i have been keeping my eye out, maybe none of the dealers are keeping them because they might be to hard to shift or is the new model going to take us by surprise
Regards
Dave

I tried selling my 2000 4.5 petrol/gas recently to no avail. After speaking to several yards they said that 2nd hand ones were very hard to shift.Maybe this applies to new ones as well given fuel prices recently.
Apparently the new pathfinder is popular.

I would have thought being duel fuel you would have no problems, they are easy to run on gas. Kilomoeters are the other issue..

Mines the July 2000 build and running sweet as a nut. Had a gearbox rebuild and some new computers but it was all under warranty. Just hoping it keeps going. Towed a van most of it's life but has been looked after very well, even if I do say so myself.

My only problem is what do I get to replace it when I do decide it's time. The things are getting higher tech all the time and from what we hear they are building them lighter as well. I would guess that the next Diesel they use at Nissan for the patrol will be a common rail and probably a six cylinder version of the one they put in the Pathfinder. Should go alright but whether it lasts or not will be the big issue

and NOTSO, my plan of attack is to meticulously maintain the one i have, as i do anyways, not abuse it by taking it some where it shouldn't have gone in the first place and fix any faults as they occur. as we find nowadays profit margin rules so i think the downgrading of components on new vehicles as well as infinite new enviro measures continue to grow i really dont think they're gonna get any tougher than they are now, more than likely they will be softer, unless ya go an get a humvee (out of my price range) so when the diffs go i'll replace them with the ridgy didge part, when the motor goes 'ill rebuild it to better than stock if not equal. thats my plan of attack anyways.

Sales on dropped from 600 to 300 per month in last year.

Wanted a new 4800 myself , but it has dropped power and torque from 185kw to 180 with new emission regs, low sales mean they cut out poorer selling models and hence no manual petrols any more.
They have also dropped the sub-tank on new petrols , and to boot the internal Lsd is smaller than used to be.

So I looked across the desk at the salesman, and said tell me again
why I shoud upgrade to latest 4800 Patrol !

It would seem that the medium sized SUV's are now doing well. Pathfinders, Klugers, Prado's etc all seem to selling OK. The bigger LANDCRUISER and PATROL have been hit like the V8 Holdens and Fords. They are seen now as a luxury that will be dear to run and I personally think they are both well overdue for replacement with a newer model. Both the Cruiser and the Patrol look a little dated now compared to the new crop of models on the market. IMHO

Without attempting to sound like a troll ( and geez I love to sound like a troll:) ) I find this kind of comment a bit disheartening....

".....Mines the July 2000 build and running sweet as a nut. Had a gearbox rebuild and some new computers but it was all under warranty. Just hoping it keeps going......"

Umm..... does everyone else fail to see that a 2000 model vehicle has no right to have a gearbox rebuild......under waranty or not!!

I would most certainly be selling a car after the gearbox failed within the warranty period!

..and if my Rangies' gearbox failed before it's 15th year(and 400,000th klm)...I would have taken to it with an axe!

After 15 years and 400K klms I can forgive the gearbox.....tow started the 8 tonne freezer truck once too many times! :))

......crawling back into my hole in the ground!

My 1998 DX Patrol non-turbo 4.2 has never let me down it has now got 287,000 k's on it. It has been on some rough roads in its time and just laps it up, pulling a campertrailer as well.

God knows how it was treated for the first 129,000 K's that Freight Corp owned it but i kept the oil/filter changes up since i have owned it (5 Years). Are there any 3.0l Patrols out there approaching this odometer reading yet?

There are rumours (and its only a rumour) of the New Patrol being the 4.5 L which is the 3.0L with 2 more cylinders. I hope that Nissan can put the 3.0L demons to rest before they try releasing it.

The next thing will be IFS on the Patrol, won't that be a hoot. Scruby may have his way yet courtesy of the vehicle manufacturers.......
