National Gathering ?

Submitted: Monday, Apr 03, 2006 at 11:28

Sargent Dan

Apparently there was an EO national gathering last year somewhere out in the desert. How often does this event take place, are there plans for another this year?

Hi Sargent Dan
I am sure there was a gathering in Birdsville in July last year. We arrived in Birdsville on the Sunday night ( delayed for 3 days at Mungerannie because of all the rain) and did not see any EO members. We were on a tight schedule for for the Hay River Trip and could not stay any longer in Birdsville, because of the 3 lost days.

Keep an eye out for the post for when it is happening again.

Cheers

Stephen

Ahhh yes!!! The first National EO Meet was scheduled for early July 2005.

Unfortunately rain interfered with many plans and only 7 vehicles met up in Birdsville and stayed with Ruth and Ian at the Birdsville Caravan park.

We went out for a couple of short drives, as well as a play on Big Red and had a big cookup below BR on the Sunday arvo.

A good time was had by all.

On the Monday morning a window of oppertunity arose when the Birdsville Track re-opened for a brief period and some of us made a dash for it. I still have some track mud stuck under the GQ...lol

ok Willem all sorted. The Place will be Lake Hattah Campground 2nd to the 5th June
fireplaces but not much wood so bring some in, bring water. Long drop dunny, no Dogs, camp fees apply. Just post it up and I'll answer all the questons.

Hattah-Kulkyne National Park protects an area of 48,000 hectares 580 kilometres north-west of Melbourne. It lies in typical mallee country with extensive low scrub and open native pine woodland. Superbly adapted birds, animals and vegetation thrive in the poor, sandy soils and searing summers.

Hattah-Kulkyne is special because of the flow of permanent water in the nearby Murray River and the freshwater Hattah Lakes seasonally filled by creeks connected to the Murray which provide food and shelter for waterbirds and fish. These lakes can remain full for up to ten years without flooding, but flooding generally occurs, on average, once every two years.

info about the park is available here

I am afraid that you are not listening to me.

I asked you to email me but you did not choose to do so.

You have assumed I would put a trip up.

I suggested that you become a member and you have made a flimsy excuse.

Ask someone else to put the trip up as I will not be available for the next 7 weeks or so and inevitably people will try and contact me.

I doubt if I will be able to get down to your proposed meet.

Sounds like a great idea Sargent Dan. I missed the last one due to the rain and arrived a day late with Roachie and his crew. We met Willem heading back down the B/Ville track. Where abouts on the river do you have in mind? I probably can't make it but you never know.
