Hi all,
Yes it is a big wet out here as well but remember that these
places are hundreds of km's apart and this time Wyndham & even Kununurra copped much more than normal. That big low that became the cyclone just sat almost over them for days.
For March 06 we had 382 mm but in Feb 1979 for example we had 549 mm, in March 2000 we had 449 mm. All depends where it falls from each low that brings the heavy rain.
Talking about rain one place in the
Kimberley compared to another is sometimes like talking about
weather in
Sydney compared to say Canberra.
We got a lot over the whole month but as we only got the edge of that low we didn't get any massive falls that were way way above normal.
But yes the overall total is high this year and after the half job we got last wet season the country needed it as well.
I gather that some
places down the road towards Derby have more than normal also. It rained here again last night, only another 30 mm but what happens with the road etc depends on how long it keeps doing that for. Did you notice all the activity still happening up over the Territory, we may end up with some of that down here yet as well.
The radar shows big rain up round Timber Creek tonight.
I gave up years back trying to guess dates when this road will open !!!!
Always end up being wrong, so now we just accept the fact that it will most likely be between the start of April and the end of May most years. One year it was the 9 th June and none of us need that to happen again.
cheers, Anne
