Cleaning Diesel soot off my rear end!

Submitted: Friday, Feb 07, 2003 at 07:54

Any tips on how to quickly clean the diesel soot off the tail gate/canopy rear window of my Hilux. Even with a regular wash the deposits seem to build up, lots of elbow grease is required to get my rear end clean (no jokes please), any ideas?

I had a similar problem with my 80 series turbo diesel blowing soot onto the front of my caravan. I was able to clean most of the soot off with some bug and tar remover.

I have since changed to a 100 series turbo diesel but have not yet done any towing with it as yet. The engine seems to be much cleaner running than the 80 series and I have not seen any smoke at all and there is no diesel smell from rthe exhaust. Whether it will smoke under load or not, I don't know, but here's hoping.

If you have soot building up on the rear of the car wagon ute or caravan you diesel is not running properly...
Get it properly tuned to "Factory specs" and do the injectors, most diesel shops will "open up" the pump to get more power but that increases smoke, soot buildup and exhaust temperatures.
