How to rent a "real" 4x4 camper ?

hi everybody

We're a familly of 5 (2 adults, 2 childs, 1 baby), and we plan to visit your beautiful country in august.

We're looking for renting a 4WD camper, but we didn't found one with :
- 5 seats (day trip)
- 4 beds
- 1 bathroom

We've got a Unimog Camper in Europe, so we are able to drive any "real truck" truck.

What we've found till now are 4x4 car with tent roof, or 4X2 clasical camper.

An OKA, a Canter or Isuzu 4x4 could be perfect.

If you know some company whitch rent this, or even a particular, please, let us know !

Ok your post title is confusing as a camper is thought of as a trailer here. ie a 7x4 camper trailer is referred to as a camper.

Also in SA it might be a known thing that any reference to camper becomes automatically a 7 x 4 camper trailer but I can assure you in other parts of this world this is not necessarily the case. I am just saying you are being pedantic and if you couldn't offer help why become involved with what i beleive to be a put down to a person whose grasp of english is not colloquially sound. Reverse the situation and how would you feel with a response like yours?

Maybe a rental camper trailer behind a rental 4x4 might be the ideal setup for them if they can't find a large Unimog sized unit. but i guess thats going to pile on the $$$$$

The vehicle you describe is not common in Australia for a good reason, we are a rich country with good roads, all the major tourest atractions are serviced by sealed roads. Others have shipped big 4x4s from overseas and been very disapionted because we have highways that are flat and straight for many hundreds of kilometers. There are a very small number of places where a 4x4 is required, these can be reached by using a local tour operator but you can easily spend a year here without using a 4x4. The roads that are not sealed are closed to traffic when they are wet because of damage to the road by stupid and selfish drivers who leave ruts in the surface which cost many thousands of $ to repair. If you come to visit us I hope you have a good time. Eric.

We are a French family of 4 and we also plan to visit the Australian outback. I found a family rental company in WA - Camperworld in Perth : www.camperworld.com.au/index.html
They have the biggest 4WD camper I found. But the "bush cruiser" is suitable for 4 and has no bathroom. I hope this may help.
