CD/DVD format to read on DVD player

Submitted: Monday, May 01, 2006 at 14:10

Hi,

While away for 6mths I want to keep a diary with both text and digital photographs. At the moment I'm thinking of just doing it in word. What format do I have to save it as on to a CD or DVD so it can be read by a normal DVD player connected to a TV?? The next question is how do I convert it from a word document to the format you suggest??

I tried converting a word document via paint brush to a JPEG file but the DVD player couldn't read it.

Thanks

Depends what you mean by a normal DVD player as some recent models of DVD player will actually show jpeg files and when they detect a disc with these files on it, create a menu for you. Some older models obvioulsy dont.

Whilst I am no expert in this area, whit I think you may have to do is convert you word document into a jpeg file. There are then software packages out there that will allow you to import jpeg files, create a slideshow and convert this to a vob file. vob files can be read on all DVD players. (an example of this is VSOPhotoDVD). I don;t know of too many that are "freeware" though.

Were you planning on creating a jpeg for each 'page' of your diary ? Then you could create a slideshow of these pictures and using the software mentioned above, create a vob file that could then be burnt. I guess you could then pause this slideshow on your dvd playe to read.

Hope this has been helpful.

Try this link Site Link to convert your Word document to a JPEG.

You can use programs such as Sonic My DVD or DVD Photo Slide Show Site Link to convert to DVD format.

Not the way I would do it, but thats me.

I would not be worrying about trying to get the diary on DVD, I would only be concentrating on the photos from a digital camera and/or video, then burn them to DVD for viewing on a standard DVD player. There are many programs for doing the latter, but you would have to decide for yourself which one suits you.

What you are trying to do, does not seem to make sense to me and is also a convoluted way of doing things.

I keep my diary in Word format, my expenses in Excel and my photo's/video on DVD. I use Sonic My DVD which allows me to combine photo's and video. It allows me to design my own front end menu, just like a bought DVD, and I can also use background music if necessary. The program allows me to add an extra narrative track, but I just have not tried it yet.

I have found that my friends are only interested in seeing the photo's/video's and I just give my own narrative when watching. I am the only one interested in my diary and can just refer to it at anytime on my computer.

I find the way I do it to suit me, and as I said, that is just my opinion.

Thanks I see were your coming from. The reason for me wanting to do this is that my parents don't have a computer but do have a DVD player, hence the reason. I will be able to send them cd's on the way of our trip.

Ok, that sounds fair to me. In that case, see my original reply and go to the links provided.

These are not the only programs that will do this for you, they are just the first 2 I found using a simple Google search asking specific questions like "how do i convert Word documents to JPEG" and "how do I convert JPEG to DVD"

All I can say is give them a go. You may have to pay for the programs, however, if you are internet savvy, there are ways of getting them for nothing in most cases, but for obvious reasons, I wont go into how on a public forum.

Good luck

Cruiser

Movie file cannot be converted to JPEG, only stills, and paint is not good for that, go to Harvey Normans or some other Computer store and get your self a Photo suite , Microsoft have a good easy one for starters,Ulead Photoimpact 11 is very good but could be confusing if your not used to it , as to Adobe Photoshop.,I think most digital Cameras save in JPEG anyhow,
For your DVDs it should be PAL format and or save in MPEG

Ya, sure is still going & its SO much better than years ago Infoselect. I have been using it for work & home since 1995 & don't use any work software at all. Just Infoselect.

You can copy files into pages as images & see full blown pictures & write commentary's around the pics.

I swear by it.
