Spanish Stairs have been gated for some time and Lost City is a walk down from the boulders across the track. The rest is still open but there is a proposal to extend the Gardens of Stone NP and lock it all off. We are fighting this proposal.

I'm in the process of writing a few letters to various state politicians, objecting to the proposal. I went to the protest rally at Bills Bunkhouse in March, and what the greenies plan to do is quite frightening and will affect our 4Wdriving future. We need all the support we can get from individuals and clubs to fight these closures.

Richard and Rob,

Can you please let me know if there is anything I can do to help? I visit the areas from the zig-zag railway noth to the glowworm tunnel, and west to basically Dubbo fairly frequently.

I couldn't get to the meeting at the Bunkhouse as I was interstate, so would be interested to hear what went on.

You can email me if u would prefer - chumpion at hushmail.com.

Cheers,

Chump

Chump, we can ALL help by lobbying our local & state MP's to keep this area open.
If they are successful, you will no longer have access to those areas.

Are you in a more privileged position than most to do something?
You can view the proposal on their website;
www.colongwilderness.org.au/index.htm and then click on "Bulletin 214-January 2006"

Sorry, should have given a brief exlpanation first up.
The Colong Foundation for Wlderness wants to extend the Gardens Of Stone NP and create Conservation areas covering The Newnes Plateau, The Airly-Genowan Mesa, Blue Mountains Escarpment, stretching from Blackheath to Lithgow and other crown lands in the area. They will lock us out if the succeed!

LOL - I am hardly in a priveledged position, just a 9-5 worker who enjoys my time away from the city....

It is an interesting article, and a lot of the issues are relevant, but it all seems a bit lite-on with solutions. It mentions feral goats as a problem, but it seems that if it is all locked up, those goats will just disappear....hmmmmm....

It is probably a time for a united front, but we all seem to enjoy just sitting on our arses and typing stuff in forums like this. The whole trouble is MP's and greenies don't read this forum, or any like it as a rule.

I might start a new thread, as I have a few ideas.....

Cheers,

Chump.
