Repeat after me: "I will not buy anything, I will not...."

Submitted: Thursday, Jun 01, 2006 at 10:18

Mike Harding

I'm off to Granger Camping this morning - just to look though, I don't need to buy any camping gear - in fact, I could probably sell them some! And I'm only going because they have a sale on and, you know, there is _just_ a tiny possibility they might have something at a _really_ good price... so good in fact that I could justify buying it and not feel guilty....

I may need emotional support upon my return.... :)

At least you guys get to go to the shops. I let my wife go to ARB this week and it cost me nearly 3 grand. I'm glad she has the same tastes as me, and we have the same goal, to get away from the rat race. :-)
So Where Is The Sale This Week???????????

Nothing! :(

I was quite disappointed actually but my current setup matches my needs so well I can't think of a way to improve it :(

Mind you; I popped into Super Cheap on the way home and they had a 39lt (CF45?) Waeco fridge for $499 - I was sorely tempted but then I'd have to buy solar panels too.

However I did my best at Grangers, I asked them to price the Chescold fridge/freezers and had, more or less, decided if they were reduced in the sale I would buy the F400... but, alas, no reduction :(

Following the above failures I tried Rays Outdoors and was again tempted by the Chinese 12V fridge at $499 but resisted - I note Rays has a 240V fridge of camping size and design ($299 I think), has anyone tried that on an inverter? it's rated at 60W iirc.

Anyway and finally I couldn't come home empty handed so I bought some replacement mantles for my dual fuel lamp, even though I already have some :)

And mantles never go astray. I tended to get a few each time I strayed into the toy shop 'just in case'

I recently emptied the camping junk box and found I had 20 of them. At my current rate of breakage I can go away for about 4 years!

Cheers

Pete

well done Mike.

Now, will you remember where you've put 'em when you need 'em?????

Buggered if I can find anything when I need it. It's usually amongst the stuff that I bought "just in case". Trouble is, the more you buy "just in case", the harder it is to find. And even if you know where it is, you forget to take it away with you because you forgot to put it on your list.

duh! Must update that inventory at weekend.

Hi Mike,

If you're in the market for a camping fridge, maybe check out www.fridgeshop.com.au - Waeco seconds.

I just bought a 3 way (CA-35 I think) from them for $290, and they deliver to anywhere in Oz for $25. Works a treat, not a freezer like Chescold F400 though, but at the right price for me. Retail at $399, but for the sake of one tiny dent the size of a five cent piece.. well I'm sure over the years it may end up with a few more scratches anyways...

I do have an (very) old Engel, but couldn't justify the $$$ for solar etc.

Best of luck spending your hard earned...

Charlie
