3.0 Litre Patrol Oil Changes

Submitted: Tuesday, Aug 07, 2001 at 00:00

David Harrington

I have just had a routine service done on my 3.0 Litre Turbo Diesel Patrol and queried the Nissan Service manager when he said he would see me back in 10,000kms. The service booklet suggests oil changes at 5000km intervals. He said that this was mainly in there for the 4.2 litre variant. Can anyone shed any light or recommendations??

Thanks,

Dave

Dpending on your driving habbits, its a good idea to check the quantity and the quality of the oil between services (every 5000) and make a decision on whether or not to change it. I do mine every 5000 cause I once almost ran it out of oil 8000K's after a service.

hi David.
I run a 2.4 litre turbo diesel Range Rover and the service intervals for mine is 10.000 Km's. You must run a top quality oil and change the filter every time not every second oil change and it will live forever.

Dave, I have a 4.2 Tubodiesel Patrol and I change oil and filter every 5000km.
If you talk to "real" mechanics and not Nissan Dealer clowns they will all tell you that servicing and good oil are the life of any diesel engine. The soot that forms on the bottom of the sump is the killer with diesel engine and no matter how good the oil is it needs to be changed every 5000km, that will also keep the engine clean internally which also helps on other things ie vacuum pump.
Nissan does not grease the unijoints either they just follow the book with disregard to the fine print...

Hi Dave & all, We,of course, need to ask ourselves, why we change the oil at all.(Not very good from a greenie pov)..So,with that in mind, why not just change the oil filter at half-
way point.(Buy only quality one).Least you will know the "blood"pumping through the rigs "veins" is free of contaminents..Why does the oil get"dirty"in the first place? I get double the
recc oil life by using Bi-Tron in my oil,saves fuel too.Runs cooler.Avail most places.Rgs Brian..RockyOne www.rocky-1-australia.com
