Filters usually have some form of charcoal in them which will remove chlorine and various microscopic nasties.

I've had one in my house for years and they are fantastic. Lots of visitors have remarked on haw different our coffee, tea, veges, etc taste to theirs.

I prefer the carbon and sediment filter. The strainers are fine to protect the pump but for drinking water I prefer a carbon filter.

I have a hand pump as well and a 12v pump, it's a Shurflo 60psi same pump thats in the Ultimate camper, they are around the $200 mark depending on where you get them, a good plumbing wholesaler would be the cheapest or the 12v shop, aka All about 12volt here in Sydney.

The best thing about the Shurflo is if you run your tank dry it won't damage the pump.
