Water Filters for camer trailer

Submitted: Friday, Jun 02, 2006 at 21:35

lost

Hi ya all, i need some expert advice from u guru's.

I need to fit a inline water filter on my camper trailer( 120 ltrs of water to filter).

I know that bunnings have filters, but they are for house filtration.i have a shuflow pump to pump from the tanks so will these filters suit a pump with low pressure.

Or does any one know if there is any that are made for campers, caravans.

Camec stock filters for caravans.

They do a chassis mount unit and also a inline unit.

I just looked at their site and can't find the filters.

They used to have a blue chassis mount unit and a white in-line one.

That's not really a filter, it's a strainer. I will keep out bugs and seeds if filling from a creek but will pass mud and other suspended stuff.

Filters usually have some form of charcoal in them which will remove chlorine and various microscopic nasties.

I've had one in my house for years and they are fantastic. Lots of visitors have remarked on haw different our coffee, tea, veges, etc taste to theirs.

I prefer the carbon and sediment filter. The strainers are fine to protect the pump but for drinking water I prefer a carbon filter.

Filter,

The tank is clean on my Camper.
It has food grade hose between tank and hand pump.
The water that goes in is good old Adelaide vintage.

What do I need a filter for?

For the camping we have done to date, the "cartridge-jug" type filter seems good. $30 plus $8 for cartridges - just fill and pour as we need the water. We might go to an inbuilt system when the water quality gets problematic - a small RO unit would be neat - not sure what the cost would be.

Hi Lost
u could try a filter that an irrigation company would sell it is a black poly filter with a lot of round plastic discs inside it, we have one between the rain water tank and the pressure pump also have one on the water pick up for the ski boat, they come with different micron ratings (have different sized ridges on the discs), to clean just unscrew outer and rinse the discs and replace the outer cover.

I got sick and tired of the crappy taste of the water from the CTs water tank, so in it went a water filter, it was pulled out of the previous house we lived in and works really well, taste just like home.

It's a double one with the 2 filters for germs, cleaning and taste.

I bought the filter setup from the filter guy in Westfields in Hurstville just down from Coles and near Myer.

The filter was really easy to fit 1/2 an hour bascilly just interupt to the tap, only thing is the water will run a little after you turn the tap off, but can be cured by getting a proper caravan type tap.

I have a hand pump as well and a 12v pump, it's a Shurflo 60psi same pump thats in the Ultimate camper, they are around the $200 mark depending on where you get them, a good plumbing wholesaler would be the cheapest or the 12v shop, aka All about 12volt here in Sydney.

The best thing about the Shurflo is if you run your tank dry it won't damage the pump.

SHURFLO 8000 SERIES PUMPS

The Shurflo 8000 series is ideal for the toughest industrial applications requiring high pressure with flow rates up to 1.8 GPM (6.8 L/min) with low amp draw. Available with valving in a wide variety of elastomers, the 8000 series can accommodate a broad spectrum of chemical products. Count on the compact 8000 and the complete line of Shurflo pumps for long life, unmatched reliability and trouble -free performance.
