Yep, well I started work in 1957 at 2 pound 10 shillings a week, paid 30 bob a week for full board, bought the Mini Minor in late 1962 for about 750 pounds, tank held 51/4 gallons and could fill it up for less than 1 pound. I averaged about 45 or 50 miles per gallon?

I started work in 1964 for the equivalent of $16pw.

That year I bought my first car, an Anglia 100E for $90. Super Petrol was around 20c a gallon as I recall and a bottle of wine was 27 cents. My rent at a boarding house was $5.50 per week including breakfast and supper.

It was a time of innocence.....lol

I started on $13 a week - tax. Boarding house was $4.50 a week, train fare $2.50. (Sydney). They were lean times, working away from home as a 16yo and living in Sydney where I knew 3 people, all of whom I worked with.
At 23 I was on scholorship of $34 a week and ran a car. Compared to the first job it was a breeze. Except for when the oil workers went on strike. I had to drive 80K to buy a full tank of fuel so that I could go to my first position in Sydney in 1973.
When I finally traded the EH Holden in, they advertised "Buy 1, get this one free"!!

I started work while in my last years of high school, my first actual paid employment was at the Mecca theatre at Kogarah where on Saturday nights I was the organist on the wurlitzer... Got paid 1 guinea a night...Which as it turned out was a better hourly rate than when I started work as a cadet engineer @ around 4 pounds a week....that was 1960 and was about twice as much as a 1st year apprentice.
I wish theartre organs were still popular... I was totally resplendant in my blue sequined jacket.... Ah the memories....I used to get standing ovulations...only thing missing were the groupies, organists didn't get groupies wanting whatever groupies wanted...
