Hi Greendog, when we were there last year, you certainly could hire one we didn't book ahead we just organised it when we got there. Not sure of the cost but it wasn't much. Plenty of fish and yabbies :)

Hi again,

No you don't have to, the camp has it's own "office" with a small kiosk as well, you pay your fees there and organise the hire of a tinnie at the same time. It's a fantastic place! We passed the homestead on the way to Lawn Hill, but didn't stop, the McGinnis family no longer own Bowthorn station, they had just sold the place when we were there last year, and the new owners were quite happy for the camp to remain open. It is quite well signposted to get in, we came in from Burketown.

The amenities block had just been refurbished and was brilliant, we had a great time there, and if you're into walking there is a great walk along the river, it's 7km return most of it walking on river sand, but it was worth the effort, or alternatively you can hire canoes and paddle up the river.

cheers

Hi Greendog, we didn't see any big lizards, we saw heaps of Kingfishers, a small snake, toads, and there are quite a few roos.

cheers
