Yes you can get in with an offroad van/trailer but they(calm) advise against it.Every time we've been in, there have been heaps of caravans and trailers in there, just take it steady and watch out for tour busses, they slow down for no-one.

We where there last year; great place. We have same setup as you and had no problems at all. Calm where turning away caravans even though they where offroad vans.

From the bitumen in ..approx 58kms...is probably the worst road you could imagine..takes about 3 hours and will test any machine and then some...getting in is not a problem...driving real slow is the test and if you push on ...rig problems...just warning you ..not meant to be a lecture !!! were there last year and did a muffler ...fixed it in Kunanura.. $$$ OUCH !!

I will agree with steve, very rough and is only single track in parts ,real hard to back the trailer up around a corner in a river bed when the traffic comes the other way.Having said this we took our camper in but had someone go just in front of us to stop the traffic if needed .Take your time it is worth going in,

Hi folks, your previous two replies have summed it up nicely, it's rough but definitely worth it. Click into Places and type in Purnululu and you should get 5 sites starting with Echidna Chasm. Click on the title pic and any others to enlarge them and read the text for more useful info. Maybe also try Spring Creek track which has pix of road conditions. Cheers - Warrie

Hi barneydoreen

Won't comment on the drive in as it is 15 odd years since I drove into there in a 4WD.

However Annette and I flew into there a year ago from Kunnunnura. What I would highly recommend is that, after doing a walk into the BBs, you then take the mustering type helicopter flight over them. WOW!! It is fantastic!!

Little bit pricey but an experience, both visually, photographically and personally, not to be missed.
Happy 4 wheeling

And when you go there get up very early to go to Cathedral Gorge Chasm BEFORE all the other tourists get there. This is one place where the peace and quiet is magic. It's only a short walk of about 15 minutes.

The others have summed up the road very well. i like the idea of teaming up and following someone else if you are towing. The only problem will (as has already been said) if you just happen to meet someone comming out at one or two short but narrow spots.

Hello Barney and Doreen,

We're going to the Kimberley in August too and we are intending on taking our camper trailer in to the Bungle Bungles. A few years ago we were there, no trailer...and it's a great experience. Might see you there!!
